Maple Ridge may have a friendly, small-town vibe, but we also appreciate Arts and Culture just as much as the next municipality. In fact, we have likely dedicated more time and effort than the next municipality if our large, well-equipped ACT Arts Centre is any indication.
Arts lovers and those who like something different during their week will appreciate all of the intellectual and cultural stimulation Maple Ridge can offer. Here is just a sampling of some of my favourite places and events in Maple Ridge for taking in the arts:
ACT Arts Centre
The cultural hub of Maple Ridge and nearby Pitts Meadows, the ACT Arts Centre was opened in 2003 with the aim of providing a comprehensive venue for the arts in the North Fraser Valley area. Its 486 seat theatre hosts both local and travelling shows as part of its ACT Presents season, selling as many as 10,000 tickets in a single season! ACT’s theatre also hosts artistic and independent films during its Golden Ears Movie Series.
The facility also boasts a large art gallery featuring contemporary art from artists in the community and throughout the world. Sculpture, painting, photography, installation art and more have all been on display, attracting around 7,000 visitors every year.
In addition to professional art, ACT Arts Centre hosts studio classes for amateurs and emerging artists alike. Some classes, like their pottery studio and drawing classes, allow for drop in times, whereas other, more limited classes require pre-registration.
You can visit the ACT Arts Centre website for updates and details on the facility’s upcoming calendar of events.
Maple Ridge Leisure Centre Classes
Like the ACT Arts Centre, the Maple Ridge hosts affordable arts classes year round for people of all ages. Popular programs include dance, ARTrageous Family Fun, painting, soapstone carving, watercolors and more. Classes are mostly offered as drop-in sessions, but pre-registration may be required.

Country Fest and Caribbean Street Festival
Every summer, these two festivals take over the Albion Fairgrounds to offer live music as well as arts, crafts, food, contests and events. Take a look at our Maple Ridge community events page to learn more.
Live Music and Performance
A huge number of local businesses, restaurants and bars host live music in Maple Ridge, especially on the weekends. Popular venues include the Haney Public House, Kingfishers Pub, Shooters Tap House and Bailey’s Pub.
